Harambee Starlets kicked off their CECAFA Women Challenge Cup campaign on a high with a 2-0 victory over Ethiopia.
The two teams settled for a scoreless draw at the break with chances hard to come by as each team pushed for an opening goal.
Starlets had to wait until the 79th minute to take the lead through a well-deserved strike from Jentrix Shikangwa.
Three minutes later, Kenya doubled its advantage after Cynthia Musungu scoring the second and winning goal of the match.
Ethiopia fought back for the remaining 10 minutes by starlets stood firm to pick the vital points.
The victory comes just days after the Harambee Starlets lost to the Copper Queens of Zambia in a 2020 Olympics qualification tie.
The Copper Queens beat the Starlets 1-0 in Lusaka after a 1-1 draw in Nairobi.
The win came as a consolation to the team after the painful elimination from the Olympic qualification matches.
The victory came less than 24 hours before the Kenyan men’s national team take on Togo at the Kasarani International Stadium on Monday in an African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
The Harambee Stars pulled off an impeccable performance in Alexandria last week after holding the Pharaohs of Egypt to a 1-1 draw.
