Raila, Ruto lead Kenyans in praising Morans despite losing to DCR in FIBA finals

Kenyans led by Deputy President Willliam Ruto and Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga have congratulated Kenya Morans despite losing 82-61 to the Democratic Republic of Congo at the final of the FIBA Afrocan Championship in Bamako, Mali.
Kenyans were surprised by the performance of the team despite average preparation before they jetted out.
Ruto and Raila took to their twitter to send congratulatory messages despite the loss, saying the team showed exemplary performance during the contest.
Ruto said that the players showed resilience and determination during the competition, which was amazing.
“Congratulations to Kenya Morans for your determination and tenacity throughout the FIBA Afrocan tournament. You showed resilience, steel, and capability to reach the final. Your second-place finish is a reward for hard work and well deserved,” he tweeted.
In his message, Raila said that the team deserves credit for the good performance it showed, adding that Morans have proven to the continent that they can do it
“Keep your heads high #Morans for trying your best against the Democratic Republic of Congo to emerge 2nd overall at the @FIBA #AFROCAN2019 basketball tournament in Bamako, Mali. We’re proud of you and wish you all the best in future outings,” Raila tweeted.
They lost but in our eyes, they are heroes, certainly a red carpet welcome on their arrival back home. We should be at the airport to receive them,” Tonny Wamula wrote on twitter.
No shame in losing a final….absolutely no shame at all. Chin up Morans, you achieved more than many people expected,” wrote sports journalist Mike Okinyi.
Others called for funding for the team to even do better next time.
“If the team reached the finals without any funding from the government, what if they were funded?” another Kenyan asked.
