Former Kenyan Premier League champions Mathare United have confirmed Salim Ali as the club’s head coach for the new season.

Ali, who has previously served as head coach at Sofapaka and Ulinzi Stars, takes over from Francis Kimanzi who resigned to concentrate on his duties at the national team.

Kimanzi is Sebastien Migne’s assistant at Harambee Stars.

Speaking to Nation Sport, the club chairman Bob Munro confirmed that Kimanzi opted for a new challenge in his career after four seasons in his second stint at the club.

“We had an agreement one year ago that he would venture into something new in his career at some point this year and we wish him well. We are optimistic that Salim will take the club forward and achieve even more,” said Munro.

Meanwhile, the 2008 champions intend to sign five players to beef up their squad ahead of the new season.
