Why Uhuru’s Kisumu visit was cancelled


President Uhuru Kenyatta cancelled his visit to Kisumu after it emerged that some people were planning to disrupt the visit.
President Uhuru and ODM leader Raila Odinga were expected in the lakeside city to host some regional presidents for the grand opening of the renovated Kisumu Port.
While commenting on the cancellation, Statehouse said President Uhuru needed time to settle, after his Jamaica trip.
But it has now emerged that locals that were not happy with the ongoing demolition of stalls in the to create space for the expansion of the port and had vowed to
Kisumu county has however declined to comment on the issue saying they were not part of the cancellation ad will have to find out what happened.
“Let the team consult and we will call you back to give you clear information about the event,” said Governor Anyang’ Nyongo’s Communication Director Alloice Ager.
But other sources have indicated that the cancellation was occasioned by the failure by the contractors on the ground to complete the work in time, hence the President could not launch an unfinished project.
President Uhuru, Raila and regional heads of state were to hold a rally in Kisumu after the port opening.
