Beleaguered Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has ditched Tangatanga wing of Jubilee and announced his support for the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Amolo Odinga.
Waititu on Sunday was heard telling a crowd in Kikuyu language that he had changed his mind over the handshake. He also said that he is fully behind the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
The politician said that the meeting President Kenyatta held with leaders from the Mt Kenya region has calmed the political temperatures of the country.
“There is now no Tanga Tanga or Kieleweke. No one can claim he owns Uhuru more than the other. This is now past tense,” Waititu said.
The governor said that he has now understood the need to support the handshake between the two leaders.
He further said that leaders across the nation should stand with Uhuru and Raila to ensure that they achieve their vision.
“I am 100 per cent fully behind the Building Bridges Initiative and the handshake,” Waititu said.
Before he changed tune, Waititu insisted that the union between the duo was meant to block Deputy President William Ruto from ascending to power.
The besieged governor said that his woes emanated from the fact he had declared his support for the DP before 2022.
