Winning gold is every athletes dream and for Evans Murata the dream came true in the year 2014 when he won three gold medals for Kenya under the Kenya Amateur Weightlifting and Body Building Association (KAWBBA) during the Africa Youth Games.
Despite this huge achievement, Evans Murutu Sokoto has nothing to show despite the sacrifice he made for thr country back in 2014.
Evans who was discovered after he rose to become a youth champion boasts of using outdated and non-standardised home-made gym equipment to get to where he was.
Years later, he is now a bodaboda rider who survives on a daily income of Ksh500.
According to Murutu, the government had promised to reward participants of the 2014 Africa Youth Games with Ksh 1 million for every gold medal but this was never to be.
“I had big dreams and plans to improve my life. That was not to be,” he told journalists.
Murutu claims that when he visited the KAWBBA offices to demand for his money, he was asked to part with Ksh 56,0000 for his cheque to be cleared.
He now appeals to the government to come to his rescue.
