State to increase radiology, chemotherapy centres to deal with cancer


President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced plans to increase the number of chemotherapy and radiology labs in the country to bolster the fight against cancer.
Speaking during the second funeral service of the late Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso at Bomet Green Stadium, President Uhuru announced that by September, Longisa Hospital will have a chemotherapy and radiology centre in honour of the late governor.
He said plans are also underway to upgrade both Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret to train medics on cancer treatment.
“An additional 10 chemotherapy centres will be launched and will be located in Mombasa, Kisumu Nyeri, Machakos, Nakuru, Kakamega, Meru and Garissa,” said the President.
The government will also put up three extra radiology centre that will be in Garissa, Mombasa and Nakuru Counties.
The Head of State also named Nakuru, Nyeri and Kisii counties as some of the places where cancer centres will be established.
