Sonko pleads with Uhuru to help him dismantle cartels

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to help him root out cartels in his government.
“It is high time the President intervened because the magnitude of the cartels in Nairobi needs more effort.”
Sonko said the recent Precious Talents School tragedy that led to the death of eight children was due to laziness in the Nairobi county administration.
Sonko defended his decision to sack officials from the departments that were directly linked to the incident, saying someone had to take responsibility.
The governor further said that his plans to send home corrupt county staff have been thwarted by cartels, which he said are trying to protect some county officials “because they are the beneficiaries”.
The governor on Wednesday admitted that revenue collection in the city has been hijacked by cartels, and urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to come to his rescue.
He spoke during the launch of the Nairobi Expressway by Uhuru.
