Ruto: I don’t fear running against Raila in 2022 polls

Deputy President William Ruto has said he is ready to take on ODM leader Raila Odinga at the ballot come 2022 but on one condition, that Raila will accept defeat.
Ruto who spoke in Meru County on Sunday, was reacting to reports in a section of the media that indicated that Raila had said he will run in 2022.
“I have heard that he has announced to compete with me in 2022. I do not have a problem competing with him, but he must first tell and assure Kenyans that in case of a defeat, he will accept the decision of the electorate,” said Ruto.
Ruto, however, said his main focus now was President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Big Four.
“But for the time being, I want to tell him that I am busy ensuring that the Jubilee manifesto and the Big Four agenda are realised,” he said.
Ruto was reacting to media reports that Raila Odinga has declared interest in the 2022 presidential race.
Raila has however dismissed reports indicating he will run for presidency false and not from him.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson Dennis Onyango, Raila said he was “deeply disappointed” by the media reports and threatened to sue Daily Nation for defamation.
“Raila strongly objects to reports appearing in the Sunday Nation today that put him in a presidential race he has not declared any interest in and which does not exist currently,” read the statement.
