Over 20 shabaab militants killed in latest AMISOM bombardment

A joint operation between AMISOM troops in and Somali National Army on Friday night left more than 20 al-Shabaab militants dead.
The attack at Central Hiran province is the latest victory against the militants from the central and southern parts of the war-torn nation.
Jalalaqsi township commissioner Mohamed Nur confirmed the Friday’s bombardment against Al-Shabaab, saying more crackdowns have been lined up to weed out al-Shabaab.
An army who spoke in confidence said besides killing the militants, the security forces managed to confiscate weapons.
“We didn’t suffer any casualties. We recovered a number of IEDs, guns and ammunition. It didn’t take us much time to bring them down,” he said.
The achievements come amid Kenya’s commitment to continue helping Somalia restore peace and stability, with Majority Leader Aden Duale saying Somalia remains strategic.
Mr Duale said as immediate neighbours Kenya and Jubbaland have a special relationship which has forced the two to work closely to address common security challenges especially those posed by al-Shabaab.
