Nakuru police begin probe in KITI student hostel rape

Police in Nakuru are probing a case in which a Kenya Industrial Training Institute (KITI) student was allegedly raped in the college hostel.
The first-year student who had gone to the hostel early was alone when a group of young men stormed her room, raped and stole household items in other hostels before leaving.
Police officers are looking for three suspects who are believed to have committed the offence.
Nakuru Central Police Boss Hellen Kabukuru said some of the perpetrators are likely to be students at the same institution.
“We are investigating how the 21-year-old student currently in the hospital was raped by three men who were armed with a machete at around 3am in her room,” she said.
Witnesses mainly students, however, said they did not hear any commotion until she made a distress call.
“We went to her room after she made a distress call only to find her lying helplessly on the bed with her hands tied from the back. She told us that she had been raped by people who had threatened to kill her if she shouted,” one of the students said.
The student’s father wants the incident probed expeditiously and the culprits brought to book.
