JKUAT PhDs are substandard, CUE audit reveals

The Commission for University Education (CUE) has declared a number of PhDs from Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) substandard.
This comes after an audit report by the commission indicated that of the 308 PhDs awarded at JKUAT in the last three years, only 160 are from the institution’s Juja main campus which has the required resources to train PhDs.
The remaining 148 PhD have been declared substandard having been awarded by satellite campuses without the capacity to train PhD students.
“The university should cease training PhD students in the satellite campuses for lack of adequate capacity and transfer them to the main campus in Juja,” read the report.
In July this year, JKUAT awarded 118 PhDs raising questions among stakeholders.
