Governor Mutua: I visited Raila for political advice ahead of 2022 polls

Machakos governor has said he met ODM leader Raila Odinga for political advice on how to mount a serious presidential bid.
Speaking after the two leaders held talks on Wednesday, the Machakos governor said the AU envoy agreed to give him tips on how to popularise his bid ahead of the 2022 General Election.
“He advised me on strategies to popularise my bid countrywide and even agreed that we consult occasionally on the same,” said Mutua.
The two leaders who met at Raila’s Capitol office in Upper Hill also talked on various issues of national importance including the handshake.
Mutua said the two discussed the historical foundation behind the March 9 handshake and the need to build a cohesive nation.
“Maendeleo Chap Chap has always supported the handshake from the word go. We see the bigger picture which is political stability, a pre-requisite for economic growth, wealth and employment creation,” Mutua said.
The two leaders agreed that the idea of “winner takes it all” electoral system has been responsible for many problems in the country.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap Party leader said elections have to be transformed to be about ideological and policy contests and not tribal affiliations.
Raila accepted the governor’s invite to tour Machakos county on a date to be announced.
