Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has told off Interior CS Fred Matiang’i’ for ordering that all bars remain shut for the population census exercise.
She said the order as “dictatorial, unjustifiable and punitive to business people and drunkards.”
The senator said the directive will affect people who earn a living from the sector and that census officials can visit even drinking spots and count people.
“…They’ll have no cash to pay their employees, suppliers and landlords,” she said.
The Senator said the bars could have even helped the census officials to easily get people, adding that Kenyans can be counted anywhere.
Matiang’i ordered all ‘social places especially bars’ to be closed at 5pm so that enumerators find Kenyans at home for the census.
