CBK: Old Sh1000 notes to become valueless on October 1

Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has dismissed as false reports indicating that it will extend the deadline for phasing out of the old Sh1000 notes beyond September 30
CBK governor Patrick Njoroge said that bank has no plans to extend the deadline contrary to some media reports.
“Do not listen to any report indicating otherwise, the deadline still remains September 30,” he said.
The CBK boss said all old banknotes will be rendered useless when that date elapses.
Njoroge said the old Sh1,000 notes will become valueless starting October 1 and that the deadline will not be extended.
“I want you to take this message to every corner of the country that people have to dispose of their old Sh1,000 bank notes by September 30. We shall not extend the period,” said Njoroge.
He asked all Kenyans to stick to the deadline to avoid any form of confusion that is likely to arise.
The governor also unveiled the campaign dubbed “Badilisha Noti Za Elfu Moja Sasa”, to ensure all the old notes are removed from the market.
