Waihiga Mwaura: Nock didn’t give me Sh100,000 during Rio Olympics

A sports journalist has denied receiving Sh100,000 or any other facilitation from the National Olympics Committee of Kenya during the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Citizen TV’s Waihiga Mwaura said he only learnt when the list came out that he was part of those earmarked for the cash without having made any request to the committee.
“I learnt that my name was included in the list without my knowledge, this is when I decided to pursue and report the story on Citizen TV,” said Mwaura while testifying before magistrate Elizabeth Osoro at Milimani courts.
He said his accommodation and the entire trip was catered for by his employer and at no time did they seek any support from Nock.
“My accommodation was catered for by my employer and the same extended to my colleagues accompanying me,” Mwaura said.
Former Sports CS Hassan Wario and other sports officials were charged with the Sh55 million scandal and abuse of office over management of Team Kenya in preparations for the Rio trip.
They were accused of illegally approving payment over Sh15,907,500 as allowances to members of the Kenyan team.
